Introduction
This Analysis Note “Wages in Portugal: evolution in the past decade” makes an extensive diagnosis of private sector wage dynamics in Portugal between 2010 and 2019 (pre-pandemic period), at specific points of wage distribution. Using detailed data for all workers employed in companies with at least one person in service, we analysed the behaviour of wages earned by workers of different individual characteristics, with employment contracts of different duration and subject to different collective regulatory instruments and employed in companies of different sectors of activity and different sizes. This paper illustrates that workers with diverse attributes earn very different wages and have been subject to different wage dynamics over the past decade.
